The 2025 Women’s World Team Selection Event takes place starting in two days on September 30, 2025-October 1, 2025 at FlipFest in Crossville, Tennessee! After the disappointing news this week that Hezly Rivera and Claire Pease are both out of the World Selection Camp due to injuries there are only 8 gymnasts now vying for 4 U.S.A World Team slots. This is a year for only individual medals, since it is the year after the Olympics, so no team score will be taken into account when selecting the gymnasts. The 8 gymnasts are Ashlee Sullivan, Dulcy Caylor, Gabrielle Hardie, Jayla Hang, Joscelyn Roberson, Leanne Wong, Simone Rose, and Skye Blakely. Let's take a look at the gymnast's high and average scores across all the competitions this entire 2025 season.
All-Around Scores

Using the gymnasts highest scores (Figure 1 above) on each event throughout the entire 2025 season and calculating their all-around scores from those high scores across every event shows that Leanne Wong has the highest all-around score possibility of a 56.3. Following Wong is Jayla Hang with a highest possible all-around score of 56.1 then Joscelyn Roberson with 55.45, Simone Rose with 55.25. If the selection committee is selecting based off all-around scores that would be our team of four: Wong, Hang, Roberson, and Rose. However, only 2 per country can actually compete in the all-around finals and this also leaves out Skye Blakely's amazing bar routine so this likely isn't the strategy for picking the US Worlds Team. It is much more likely to look at the top 2 gymnasts because those would likely be the ones within the all-around finals which would be Wong and Hang.
Now it is unlikely each gymnast will truly have their best day on every single event to achieve their highest possible all-around score. Looking at the sum of the average scores on each event (Figure 2 below) Wong still tops the leaderboard with a 55.2333 when using the average score across each event and adding those together for an all-around score. She impressively is only a bit over 1 point difference from her potential top all-around score. Roberson then moves into second with 54.2833 since she has been slightly more consistent also with only a bit over 1 point difference than her max than Hang with a 53.5588. Hang's scores have fluctuated more than the Wong and Roberson as her average is ~2.5 points lower than her potential max, but she also competed more times over the year than both Roberson and Wong competing at 12 competitions (including prelims and finals for international meets) compared to just 3 competitions for Wong and Roberson.

As mentioned before all-around scores are not the only factor as the US needs to put up at least our 2 best athletes on each event to have a chance at medaling with those events. The event breakdowns are as follows:
Vault
For vault we can look at highest and average scores, but in order to medal at Worlds on vault the gymnasts need to be able to perform two vaults from different families. The only gymnasts that are part of the World selection that have performed two different vaults in a single competition this season were Wong and Hang.
Wong had a 13.675 average between her two vaults for US Championships Day 1 and 14.5 average between her two vaults for US Championships Day 2. Wong's high vault score would be 14.5 and her average would be 14.0875.
Hang competed two vaults within the Pan American Championships with a vault score of 13.85 on the vault finals and 13.7 on the preliminary day; the Osijek Competition with a 13.766 on finals and 13.599 on the preliminary day; the Antalya World Cup with 13.666 in finals and 13.783 in prelims; and Winter Cup with a 13.675. This makes her high a 13.85 and her average a 13.72.
Based on those scores the top contender to send for vault would be Wong but Hang could be the second gymnast for medal potential that the US could send for Vault. Roberson historically has done two vaults, but we have not seen two this competition season so it depends whether she decides to add it for the World Selection Event.
Uneven Bars

For the 2025 Season Blakely has the highest high (Figure 3 above) uneven bars score of 14.35. Following Blakely is Rose with a 14.25 then Hang with a 14.133. When looking at average scores across the season (Figure 4 below) Blakely still has the highest of the average scores at 13.8 and Rose still has the second highest score with an average of 13.6571 but the third athlete shifts to Roberson with a 13.5833 instead of Hang since her average is 12.9859. This is again due to Hang having many competitions this season compared to Roberson.

Balance Beam

For balance beam Blakely again has the highest high score (Figure 5 above) at 14.4, Wong has the next highest score for the 2025 season at 13.95 and Hang and Caylor tied for the third spot with a 13.9. Roberson is also very close with only 0.1 lower than Hang/Caylor with a 13.8 potential. When looking at average scores across the season (Figure 6 below) Blakely and Wong are still the top two gymnasts at 13.925 and 13.6667 respectively. The third gymnast then shifts to Roberson at 13.6167 since she has been more consistent across her three competitions compared to Hang and Caylor which drop to the fifth and seventh spots.

Floor Exercise

The top gymnast for the max scores (Figure 7 above) is Roberson with 14.15, then Sullivan with a 14, then Hardie with a 13.9 and Wong in fourth with a 13.8. Average floor scores for the season (Figure 8 below) show Wong as the top gymnast with a 13.7, then Hardie with a 13.6, then third is Roberson.

Who is on the team?
With all the information above for each event we can start to look at which names appear consistently within the top 3 both for highs and average scores across the season.
High/Average | Vault | Bars | Beam | Floor | AA |
First | Wong | Blakely | Blakely | Roberson/Wong | Wong |
Second | Hang | Rose | Wong | Sullivan/Hardie | Hang/Roberson |
Third | Hang/Roberson | Hang/Roberson | Hardie/Roberson | Roberson/Hang |
Looking at the winners for each event first...
Wong appears 6 times above - high/average winner for vault and all-around, second place for high/average for beam and the average winner for floor.
Blakely appears 4 times as the high/average winner for both bars and beam.
Roberson appears 6 times as well as the high winner for floor and third place average for floor, the second place high for all-around and third place average for all-around and the third place average for both bars and beam.
Hang appears 6 times as well as the second place high/average for vault, the third place high for bars and beam and the second place high for all-around and third place average for all-around
Rose appears twice as the second high/average for bars but does not appear on any other events.
Sullivan appears once as the second place high for floor, but does not break into the top 3 for average score on floor and does not appear on any other events.
Hardie appears as second place average and third place high for floor but also does not appear on any other events.
Taking all of this into consideration my worlds team without seeing what happens at selection camp would be Wong (all-around), Blakely (bars/beam), Roberson (vault?/floor), and Hang (all-around).
Who would be on your team and what do you think the others would need to show to make their case?
